WorkingNation, a nonprofit founded in 2016 by venture capitalist Art Bilger to expose hard truths about the looming unemployment crisis, has named Jane Oates as its new President. Oates has been with WorkingNation since its beginning, and she previously served on its Executive Committee and before that in the Obama Administration as assistant Labor secretary for employment and training. WorkingNation is a national campaign to educate the American public and policymakers through story telling about structural unemployment, the skills gap and achievable solutions we can all get behind to ensure that all Americans are prepared for the future of work. Jane Oates will continue her work promoting WorkingNation’s storytelling mission and on strengthening its partnerships.
In a Q&A announcing her new position with CEO Art Bilger, Oates spoke on what she has learned since joining WorkingNation, stating, “I have really learned the power of film in explaining workforce training. Decades of policy work demonstrated the dedication of the people engaged in workforce development and film captures what they do, captures the resilience of the people going through re-education, and educates and inspires audiences nationally.”
