U.S. Cellular & JASON Learning Unveil Connected Storm Sanctuary Day of Design Mission

STEMconnector is pleased to announce a new Day of Design Mission powered by U.S. Cellular and JASON Learning. U.S. Cellular and JASON Learning, an education-focused organization with headquarters based in Virginia, will be working together to bring the U.S. Cellular Connected Storm Sanctuary Mission to the greater Milwaukee and Tulsa regions as part of U.S. Cellular’s commitment to advancing kindergarten through high school science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The Mission: Connected Storm Sanctuary challenges students to imagine and prototype solutions that use mobile technologies to create a better storm sanctuary: a temporary space where families can come together, connect, engage and be safe during and immediately after a natural disaster. Students will be asked to use critical thinking, teamwork, and problem solving skills to come up with a prototype that will solve this problem.

U.S. Cellular has a longstanding commitment to the community and education. The company has contributed more than $13.2 million to K-12 education since 2009. In 2017, U.S. Cellular associates volunteered at more than 185 events and are committed to volunteering 35,000 hours in local communities again this year.

U.S. Cellular and JASON Learning will be working together in key districts in the regions to expose students to real life STEM professionals and careers through mentoring, one of the main pillars of Day of Design.

As Day of Design’s goal is to directly connect students to corporations, engaging them in fundamental STEM skills development and collaborative problem solving skills through community oriented missions, every Day of Design missions incorporates project based learning, mentoring, and community-oriented problem solving to provide students with the skills they will need to succeed in the workforce of tomorrow.
