The STEM Leadership Center, in collaboration with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, the Teachers College of Columbia University and U.S Satellite Laboratory are now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 Regeneron STEM Teaching Fellowships. The Fellowship is a grassroots education initiative that addresses the need to train secondary science teachers in STEM teaching methods, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and professional research practices. The competitive, 16 month Fellowship is awarded to 10 outstanding, science teachers of grade 7-12 near Regeneron’s campus in Tarrytown, New York, and includes two exciting learning experiences experiences:
- A Leadership Certificate in STEM Education sponsored by Teachers College, (with 9-graduate credits from a regionally-accredited partner university): Part of the Endeavor STEM Teaching Certificate Project in collaboration with NASA , fellows learn to apply research-based, STEM pedagogical strategies including inquiry and design practices and STEM content in the classroom. The academic experience blends science content, STEM pedagogy and NGSS while bringing cutting-edge authentic data and NASA resources to the standards-based curriculum.
- A two-week, 2020 Summer Research Experience in the laboratories at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, in Tarrytown, New York: Fellows are assigned to research teams led by professional scientists and biotech engineers serving as mentors and team leaders. Mentors engage Fellows in real time research projects in the mentor’s scientific specialty. Fellows return to the to classroom with a greater understanding of the skills young people need to pursue college and careers in STEM fields.

July 2020 | Regeneron Mentorship Experience (2 weeks) begins in mid-July. |
September 2020 | Fellows conduct collaborative work with other teachers & science colleagues in a Leadership Practicum to earn the Teacher’s College STEM Leadership Certificate. |
